St. Paddy Sweets

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

You might not think sweets like cookies, cakes and cupcakes would go with green beer… and you’d probably be right. Still, creative cooks come up with some pretty awesome green- or shamrock-themed treats, like these delights I found on Flickr.

St. Pat’s celebrations outside the pub

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Drinking on St. Patrick’s Day is a pretty standard holiday cliche. In fact there seem to be more St. Patrick’s Day drinking t-shirts than any other theme for the holiday. But there are other festive ways to celebrate the holiday in full-on green Irish style. Irish Central recently posted their list of 10 ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day that don’t involve a pub. Their top suggestion is to watch the John Wayne classic The Quiet Man. Watching an Irish-centric movie sounds like a good idea to me, and there are a lot more to choose from. Remember the Irish parade scene in Harrison Ford’s The Fugitive? For more fun movie ideas, check out the list of IMDb movies with the keyword Ireland and St. Patrick’s Day. And in case you want to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day the ‘traditional’ way, we’ve got a great selection of those funny Irish drinking shirts for you!

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Guinness beer founder Arthur Guinness signing in the lease on the famous St. James Brewery. 2009 is a big year for Guinness and Tuesday March 17 2009 marks one of their biggest days: St. Patrick’s Day. Celebrate St. Paddy’s with a pint of Guinness and a cool beer-themed t-shirt from saint-patricks-day-t-shirts.com. Here are some of our favorites:
